· Every Senior golfer dreams of beating his or her age. We had this occur recently on Saturday 5th April. Steve McNamara who has been playing excellent golf lately had a great round of 69 off the stick to well and truly beat his age. His round included 5 birdies and 3 bogeys. It also happened to be an Eclectic Round so those birdies will certainly put him in good stead. I think we can safely say that there will be more occasions where Steve beats his age.

· The Men’s Pennant Div 1 and Div 3 sides hosted the other clubs on Sunday 12th April. Many thanks to our Pennant Captain Jake Longhurst for organising the pennant players to send the teams off and to act as ‘Spotters’ on the first two holes. This was to ensure that the field moved well from the start. And this happened very well.

The course looked amazing as well. Congrats to Rob Bradley and staff there.

On a distressing note though, one of the spotters, Steve Daniel was standing with me between the 1st and 2nd holes. It was hard to see balls early as the sun was giving us grief. We relied on the starter to give us a hint with arm signals. Towards the end of the Div 3 field we saw a player tee off but his high ball was not seen at all. An arm movement indicating it was heading right didn’t help this time as this high ball landed on top of Steve’s head drawing blood. The people on the tee saw it take off but no-one could track it as it lifted higher. Steve was carted back to the club, the bleeding stopped and thankfully, later reported that he was feeling OK.

· Three things appealed to me that day:-

1) The willingness of pennant players to answer the call from Jake Longhurst and help out on the day. Thanks to Jake, Cam Bowers, Eric Fleming, Steve Cadby and Steve Daniel. I haven’t seen this happening at other clubs to this level.

2) The importance of yelling out ‘Fore’. With club golf, we as members should be yelling out ‘Fore’ with gusto if there is even a slight chance of hitting someone.

3) The appreciation shown by the participating pennant players of our course and helpers.
