Sunday 5th November brought perfect conditions for both Junior teams playing their final round at Curlewis.

Team 1 vs Barwon Heads

Ivy off the green tee’s had another seesawing tussle, driving the ball well, digging deep all day, holing a nice putt on the 18th to square.

Cyrene off the green tee’s, playing her first match for the season came up against a strong boy who would wait for the green to clear before driving 200m.  She wasn’t rattled by this and continued playing with an unfailing positive attitude, hitting beautiful drives and fairway shots, to finish 6/4 down.

Max, driving consistently long and straight, with some nice close approach shots and chips. He was 2 up after 9, looking like he was in ‘the zone’ and enjoying his match, winning 4/2.

Paige giving 10 shots, lead her match from the start, 3 up after 9, she was able to consolidate on errors with the help of Cam B her caddy, and continue her fine form winning 3/1.

Aidan performed fantastically again all day, giving his opponent 10 shots, he won the last 2 holes from being 1 down, sinking an amazing 40 foot bomb on the 18th for a birdie in front of a huge crowd to win 1 up!

Result 3.5 to 1.5 win Curlewis

Team 2 vs 13th Beach Tomara

Charlie with Nan, Madelyn on the bag in his first pennant match, playing off the green tees, was behind all day but kept persisting and with some great play, he won on the 18th, 1 up

Ryder stepping in as emergency after Chelsea’s injury, had a tough day off the green tees, finishing 3/2 down.

Will with his Pa, David on the bag had a tight tussle all day against Curlewis junior Hugo S, finishing with a beautiful 2nd shot onto the 18th in front of a great crowd to win 2up.

Sam receiving 2 shots, played faultless off the tee and straight with his irons.  He was steady and consistent against an opponent almost twice his age and height, winning 3/2.

Noah giving 13 shots played a tactical game with the help of experienced junior Ben B caddying.  Both players held the lead throughout the match in a very tight tussle going to the 18th, finishing square.

Result 3.5-1.5 win Curlewis

I’d like to congratulate both Curlewis teams on their pennant season, all players should be very proud of what they have achieved, whether that be they got to the 18th hole (win, loss or draw), they won a hole or two, they made new friends, or they played their first pennant match (Ivy, Charlie, Ryder, Will, Josh, Lucinda). The growth in their game play has been noticeable and their keenness to support their team mates is to be applauded.  Thankyou to all caddies (David, Maddy, Jill, Greg, Cam, Ben, Paul B, Paul M, Randy, Terry, Wade, Andrew, Jack, Glenn, Jason, Bree), parents and supporters, it’s very much appreciated.
