Division 1 Team 1

Round 2 was played @ 13th Beach against Portarlington.  It was a tad windy on the Beach course which would make for some challenging golf ahead.

This report comes to you out of the mouths of our Caddies.

1st to tee off was Julie Flintoff.  She loved being out front with uninterrupted play. She managed to be 4 up on the turn with a shot of the day – 3rd into the 9th green, hitting it to gimme range.  Her opponent unfortunately couldn’t get her putter going and Julie was able to capitalize with some solid putts. Winning the caddy money – 6/5

Gill Morrison got off to a fantastic start and found today’s wind NOTHING compared to the Betty Kernott final she played in last week. After 9 holes Gill was 6 up and a great lead heading into the back 9. Her tee shot on the 13th was a little wayward but she played an amazing 7 wood just short of green to par the hole and won her match 5/3.

Vicki Carnie our number 3 was very quick out of the blocks and played a steady game today. With luck on her side and a nice bounce off the mound on the 6th gave her great confidence to continue with a comfortable win on the 14th.

Playing number 2 Jill Pring was much more relaxed going into her game today and drove the ball very well. She found the Par 3’s were a little challenging, however her shot of the day came from her 2nd shot into the green on the 9th and came away with a great par. Despite some great shots her opponent played very consistent golf and Jill lost her match 4/2.

Last to tee off was our Captain Wendy Tottenham. Her solid 10/10 drives set her up well for the shots into the greens; however her iron play let her down a little today.  She was playing a lady who had a sensational game, and in her words “I’ve had a day out”. Knowing Curlewis had 3 in Wendy did not lose focus and tried her best to stay in the match, unfortunately finishing 6/4 down.

A great team effort Curlewis.  We head off to Torquay next week for Round 3.

Division 1 Team 2

What a wonderful effort in the wind at 13th Beach against Torquay. The course was in great condition considering the drought we are in. Our team of Gael Charman, Elaine Cass, Lynne Perree, Denise Kelly and myself went oh so close but just fell short going down 3/2. Team spirit is high and we will continue to give our best out on the course.

Many thanks to our caddies – Bron Burton, Anne Clutterbuck, Bernie Thomas and Elaine Barker for battling along in the windy conditions. We as players are very appreciative for your time and patience!

We will need more lollies to build up our stamina next week against Anglesea at Torquay!!!

Judy Scarrott (captain)

Division 5

Division 5 pennant girls enjoyed the beautiful surrounds of Angelsea Golf course on Friday together with their numerous laid back kangaroos.

We had a full contingency this week after being more than competently carried by our emergencies Anne, Louise and Lorraine last Friday at Lara. The girls are currently having a ball ripping up Barnbougle and Lost Farm.

There were many discussions amongst Claire, Pip, Deb, Karen and myself about the lightning speed of the Anglesea greens which proved to be nerve wracking.

The girls did us proud with a 4/1 win over The Sands and a couple of the matches finished on the dreaded 18th.

We look forward to taking a leisurely trip to Apollo Bay next week.
