Division 1

Team 1 Report

Curlewis (1) Us v Curlewis (2) Them.

The 2019 season kicked off in pleasant conditions at the well presented Portarlington course.

Curlewis players and caddies were looking fabulous in the colourful new outfits, definitely winning fashions on the field. With much hope in their hearts and practice under their belts, no player was looking forward to playing hard ball against their club mates. But contend we must and win we should.

Julie Flintoff started the ball rolling well with a good victory over a sometimes nervous Denise Kelly, winning 6/4 and collecting the caddie money.

Gill Morrison, having played so much match play recently kept it going by  holding off Lynne Perree in a great contest for 17 holes but finished 1  down on the 18th.

Vicki Carnie played well against Gael Charman, with a good birdie and a couple of kick-in pars helping her campaign to have a good win on the 15th of 4/3.

Jill Pring suffering some swing confidence issues had a rough start against a persistent and ever- present Margie Black. Momentum changed and she came back from 4 down to be 2 up after 15 holes. In her words “I have no idea how”

It was an excellent putt that set up the gimme par on the 19th when Margie’s par putt lipped out that won the match and gave Curlewis (1) the points.

No 1 Wendy Tottenham failed to find her A game under the constant good golf pressure from Judy Scarrott. Jude grabbed the reins on the contest early on and won easily 5/4.

Team 2 Report

What a wonderful sight to see both teams gathered together before our match against each other today at Portarlington.

Congratulations to Team 1 for such a fantastic contest and being the winners 3/2.

Margie Black, Gael Charman, Lynne Perree, Denise Kelly and myself represented our with pride and fought it out to the end- 2 matches going to the 18th and 19th.

We will carry our enthusiasm into next week’s game against Torquay at 13th Beach and look forward to again giving it our all.

Well done girls!!
