Curlewis was triumphant in a tight semi-final against The Sands on Monday at Barwon Valley.
Stan Stewart (18 handicap and giving 4 shots) was first away. Stan was not quite able to make up the handicap difference and went down 3/2. Brian Shaw (17 handicap and receiving 2 shots) playing at number 4 was his usual steady self in a contest where little separated the players, he drew first blood with a 2 up victory. John Fellows (handicap 14 and receiving 3 shots) was up against a vastly improved Sands player and went down 2/1. David Yelland (handicap 10 and receiving 1 shot) was pitted against a tough opponent who had not lost all season. David played excellent golf and won comfortably 5/4. Ray Drady (5 handicap and giving 2 shots) was locked in an arm wrestle with little between the players. 1 up with 1 to play and a par on the 18th hole was enough to get the team home.
The final will be played at Portarlington against perennial winners Clifton Springs. Good luck to the team.
