School Holiday Clinic

It has been great to see so many inspiring young golfers at the club this week getting expert coaching from Tybin, Tom and Andrius. Ages range from 6 -14. All appear to have happy smiles on their faces and enjoying their introduction to golf. Let's hope some will become budding champions and maintain a link with our club.

As we have so many young players enjoying  golf and our course, we need to foster this age group and support them in the future.  At our last CGC Inc Meeting we identified this need and we are seeking an enthusiastic member to assist Wendy  Tottenham in sharing the role of Junior Development.

If you have this interest please speak to Wendy.

Also if you know of any young golfers looking to take part in our Academy make sure they contact the Pro Shop, the next Curlewis Junior Golf Academy commences Sunday 21st October and continues for 8 weeks.

50th Anniversary Celebrations

Over the next few months Brian Egan will be conducting interviews with some of our older and probably wiser members to gather stories about the Club throughout the years, which will be compiled into our 50th Anniversary Book.

For the 2020 Celebrations, the Committee will decide which week, format and all activities to  be held.

The gathering of stories and pictures for the book will be the big priority for 2018/2019.

If you have any stories, photos, snippets or tales from our Club's history make sure you contact Brian.

Golf Victoria Country Week Golf Final

Our two Reps Julie Flintoff and Jill Pring played amazing golf all week.  Jill losing only one match on 18, 1 down, on the last day and Julie playing for the first time in Country Teams, lost one on the first day and one on the last day, it does not do justice as to how well Julie played!

We are so lucky at Curlewis to have these two golfers at our club, watch this space we have two very good golfers in our midst.

Melbourne Cup Day Skins Comp

If you want to spend a great Melbourne Cup Day out without having to hit the track, why not enter a team into our Melbourne Cup Day Skins. It's a Texan Stableford Multiplier with teams of four. Great prizes on offer and a fun day out for all.

Not The Open (aka British Open)nor the Curlewis Open!

Courtesy of Stuart McCleland

Congratulations to long time member and Curlewis pennant player Cameron Bowers (aka Cam) in recently winning this year's Hepburn Springs Open.

Cam's steady tee game and precision iron play was enough to tame the tricky par 66 layout and the field, shooting 69 + 68 = 137 (gross) to win comfortably by 4 strokes.

With the challenging sloping greens the course's defence, birdies were hard to come by, pars being the order of the day.

Cam did this beautifully, managing to sneak in a couple of birdies, but was good enough to keep the bogeys to a minimum.

"His steady play was a pleasure to witness. He's a deserved winner" said Peter Meyer.

Cam was joined by fellow pennant team mate Peter Meyer and ex-Curlewis members Joe Raimondo and Mick Terrington on the day. Congratulations Cam, well played!

Welcome to new members

It's great to see so many new members around the Club.

A big welcome to those who have recently joined, Ross Hodges, Jarman Reid, Joseph Ryan, Andrew Salvino, Ange West, Kath Fleming, David Gibbons, Nick Ryan and Chilton Shum, who is one of our younger members aged just 5 and is already showing promise of being a very talented player.  Please make yourself known to our newer members and make them feel welcome.

Meet and greet for new members

We are holding another Meet and Greet Afternoon Saturday 17th November at 2.30 pm in the Spike Bar. This is an opportunity for new members to meet Committee members, the Golf Ops Manager, and a rep from The Bellarine. It's a great way to get to know how the Club works and to catch up socially over afternoon tea. Just let the office know if you are attending.

Till next time, happy Golfing!
